Frequently asked questions

  • Luxe Gardens will visit the area needing developing to make assessments of your site. There will be regular dialogue and step by step consultation along the journey. One or two concept sketches will then be developed into more detailed drawings and then finalised into the detailed design that you’ll keep. These designs can be used by yourself or handed to a landscaper to do the work for you.

  • Sadly no, you’d need to research local people in your area who can do that. If you are part of Luxe Learning and Workshops participants often share information on who they trust and recommend.

  • Whether you are part of the Luxe Learning community or want Lite services you will be shown how to break your garden up into different bite-sized projects while maintaining unity and cohesion throughout. Then you can do each venture as and when you are ready.

  • Definitely! We can design around any site or “issues”. But if slopes are very steep you will need a professional to assess and survey before actual work begins.

  • Designs and imagination can take anything into account! With drainage and boggy areas it’s up to you … keep them and make the most of them or if that’s not an option, you may want to get a professional in to assess and get it dried out. It may come down to budget…

  • Well, it could be (one or more) of many things! But a Planting Design by Luxe Gardens will make sure that the plants that are chosen are the right plants for that site. It won’t be hard when you know all the basics to guarantee success!

Luxe Elite & Lite

  • Yes! A one-on-one consultation at your site or over an online call will help you get moving. Just book online and we’ll go from there.

  • An Hour of Power will more than likely be enough for a start. We’ll work quickly through the topics you want to cover and if you need more time, we can keep going. It’s a good idea to take things in manageable chunks at the start especially if you need to get a bit of work done along the way.

  • This is a really difficult question to answer. Big changes may need heavy duty landscaping, machinery, specialist assessments and skilled labour. These will cost much more than simpler DIY improvements in smaller areas. One way of managing cost is to spread the work over a few years. Decide the importance and value of the changes for you, so you won't regret the expenses later.

Luxe Consultations

  • No! Neither can I! Designing uses simple shapes and concepts and a few tricks you’ll be shown.

  • Both! But do the landscaping course first if you need to make any changes to the layout or structure of your garden. The plants on their own won’t fix your garden. There’s only a few worse things than completing amazing planting, and then having to dig it all up to make changes later on.

  • Absolutely none whatsoever – the focus is on complete beginners to those who know a little but want to take things up a notch. Being open minded and willingness to try out new ideas is what will get you success and a beautiful design in the end.

  • Nothing really. Although hardscaping is a term used bit more when talking about the “hard” materials you may want to consider in your design.

  • At the very start, you will be invited to list  your garden “issues”, your pain points, concerns and challenges. These are then integrated into the lessons for the weeks ahead. If you have something very unusual or only for your site, we can talk them through outside of the classroom.

  • Sessions of each course run weekly, and you’ll probably need 1-2 hours each week – especially at the start when you are initially assessing your site. It also depends on how big your area or grand your schemes. Time spent at the start doing this is well worth it for the success of your design at the end.

  • If you can’t attend any of the sessions don’t stop coming to the others! There are comprehensive course notes sent out to every delegate to keep you on track – and I’m always on hand to answer your questions later on.

  • No, we only use pencil and paper. The focus is on making this affordable and available for everyone.  Note book/scrap paper, pens, pencils, ruler, rubber and coloured pencils will be perfect. An A3 portfolio folder would be a bonus to keep your designs safe.

  • Yes – a key focus of Luxe Gardens is to encourage community. You can join as a representative of your community, or we can visit you to see what you’re looking to accomplish.

  • These will be specific and focused on the most popular topics that are requested. Examples may be improving soil health, designing with natives, gardening in pots and raised planters. To make a request or suggestion for future workshops, click here

  • Besides some in depth learning? Luxe Gardens is 100% interactive! You’ll be encouraged to participate, and you can expect to be inspired and supported by peers with their amazing insights and suggestions.

Having fun and being light-hearted is a key component – with ongoing socials and continuing friendships later on.

Special Note: If you like to dazzle others with your knowledge and expertise you may find these sessions a bit dull.

  • All sites have full access for anyone with limited mobility. Car parks are available UNLESS stated in the course information.  Bus routes will be listed where known.

  • Sign up for the emails and you’ll be included in the mailing lists to receive any news about what Luxe Gardens is scheduling.

  • You will be given a 100% refund if you decide this is not what you expected. You will need to let Luxe Gardens within 24 hours of attending the first session.

  • No more than 12 people.

(But we need a minimum to go ahead to cover costs and venue hire).

  • Luxe Gardens can also run private courses in your home. Consider gathering friends (recommend 3-4) together for a totally different social experience! And it will cost less as there are no venue hire costs.  Contact yvette@luxegardens.co.nz to discuss.
